Unsung

This darkened room is empty now
As we’re both trying to learn how
To take the next step
Without looking back
Over our shoulders
But as I slowly turn to go
How these lights are turned down so low
How they fade to black

Grab my hand, honey, and take my word
I’m just an unsung melody vanished without a chord

A monument forever stands
As broken glass held in my hands
And a cut I can’t afford
But I won’t hurt what I won’t heal
And I won’t hold what I can’t feel
(I can’t feel)

Grab my hand, honey, and take my word
I’m just an unsung melody vanished without a chord

But it’s a little too late for good-byes
As I sense there’s nothing in view
And I always thought when I’d die
That I’d be lying next to you
I hope when I die
I’m lying next to you

So here I lie in silent eternal whiles
As this light shines through me for a thousand miles
And all my feelings don’t add up to nothing
But vanished voices and transparent smiles
Ooh, say you’ll stay by my grave at least for a while

This isn’t really what I had in mind
All I wanted was something that just would last
A little longer than after the lights went out
But my power’s gone
I guess I’ll just fade away
